In the Golden Age of Comics, the great artist Will Eisner created a character named “Sheena Queen of the Jungle,” a character largely devised to appeal to boys approaching that special time in their lives. The company has a history of creating proxies of other companies’ popular characters, and Shanna the She-Devil is one of the most blatant examples of this. To begin with, Shanna the She-Devil is one of the most bizarre characters in the Marvel franchise. #5: Shanna The She-Devil (7 part miniseries) I’ll start with number five (the rest will come later–consider subscribing to this site for free). Out of the glut of comics lore I’ve shoved into my brain, here’s my picks for the top 5 weirdest stories from the last decade. I have honestly read more than 200 Marvel comics recently–I know this because the site keeps track. Having so many comics at my fingertips can be a bit too much for an obsessive reader like myself. Over the past 6 weeks, I have read an absolutely horrendous amount of Marvel Comics thanks to my Marvel website subscription. Mention dark fantasy and the images change to blood, vampires, surreal creatures, and the dark of night. But like any genre, there also is a dark side. The word fantasy often conjures up images of fairies, swords, wizards, and tales in different dimensions. He is the bastard of the Lord Prism, Gavin Guile, the most powerful magic user in the world. He still has a very long way to go, but I think his future will be certainly interesting and dramatic. So, it was great to see him grow as a character as he learnt the extent of his abilities and where they stem from. He is fat, uneducated and quite ordinary but in his veins flows a power he has not quite come to terms with. It’s straightforward and it’s very clever. The magic is categorised into different subcategories and styles based on the colours wielded by the user. And that’s a real feat in and of itself because Sanderson is the best in the business. Brent Weeks’ system based on colour and light can match anything Sanderson has put together. I thought Brandon Sanderson was the only writer of fantasy who could create such cool and intricate systems. The Black Prism has a fantastic magic system. There’s just so much detail that truly brought the world to life for me. It’s a beautifully rich fantasy universe with an awe-inspiring amount of world-building and colour behind it. What Brent Weeks has painted here is nothing short of marvellous. The series would also spawn multiple anime series, movies, novels, video games and more.
